More about Jamie B.
I grew up in a home full of creativity. My mother is a visual artist, painting on large canvases or micro pieces of paper and capturing the beauty of the world through the many different lenses of her cameras. If there is anyone in this world that can find beauty in the mundane, it is my mother.
My father is an artist in his own right, crafting each and every item I could imagine growing up. He build my childhood home (and the home my parents still live in) as well as many of the things inside of it. He has a way with storytelling and sharing songs that could bring you to tears (TBD on what feeling comes with them). Where there is a great story, there is my father.
Both of my parents are lovers of music and color and bringing more laughter into this world, and I owe a lot of my way of seeing the glass half full to them.
As a musician, I often find myself unable to speak my mind unless through song and yet, my lyrics have left me feeling a bit underwhelmed as of late. So, I’m doing the only thing I know to do when words aren’t flowing the way that I want them to — writing and writing and writing some more.
I started writing love letters years ago. Not the typical “I love you because…” love letters, but the “hey, the world is hard, but wow you’re here and you rock” or the “everyone says getting shit on by a bird is good luck, so apparently I’m lucky and if you get shit on by a bird today, you’ll be lucky too” kind of love letters. Whether on an old blog (Songs of a Siren and The Conscious Living Blog — RIP), newsletters via Mailchimp, or an Instagram caption, I’ve always been someone who gravitates to sharing a bit of my inner world to my outer world.
And that is exactly what I intend to do here — for the long haul. I’m hopeful that this Substack will be the one-that-sticks and I invite you to join me *and hold me accountable* to ensure it does.
If you’re interested in knowing some of my inner world, reading love letters, or hearing about the wild situations I find myself in, you’re in the right place. And who knows? Maybe I’ll end up sharing some more music here one day.
